Common home repairs in The Green Mountain State

Vermont is known for its stunning seasons, but those seasons carry real implications for the homes that endure them. Winters are long, cold and snowy, making a reliable heating system one of the most important assets in any Vermont home. Summers are short but warm, with enough humidity in some years to make cooling systems worthwhile. Although most home warranty plans may not cover weather-related damages, it is important to note that weather plays a role in the systems and appliances you rely on in your home. The freeze-thaw cycle through late winter and early spring is especially hard on plumbing.

Vermont has a high proportion of older homes, many of them historic structures found in communities like Burlington, Montpelier and Brattleboro. Aging boilers, oil heat systems and outdated electrical panels are common sources of costly repair calls. Appliances run year-round, and when a refrigerator or washing machine fails, the expense and inconvenience arrive together.

Home warranty coverage in Vermont: What your plan should include

Home warranty coverage in Vermont should begin with heating. Whether your home uses a gas furnace, oil boiler or another system, reliable heat is foundational to Vermont living. Heating coverage is not a luxury here — it is essential. Cooling coverage is a useful addition for the warmer months.

Plumbing coverage is particularly valuable given the risks associated with freezing temperatures and the state's older housing stock. Electrical coverage adds important protection for homes where wiring may not have been updated in decades. Appliance coverage provides a practical safety net for everyday equipment. Before choosing a plan, take time to read the service agreement carefully. Note exclusions, understand any service fees and check coverage limits. Vermont's covered bridges, fall foliage and vibrant communities offer much to appreciate. A solid home warranty helps you stay focused on enjoying all of it.

What to look for in a home warranty company in Vermont

Choosing a home warranty in Vermont means finding a provider that can meet your needs.

  • Look for plain, clear contract language.
  • Request a sample contract before you sign.
  • Check how pre-existing conditions and older equipment are handled, given Vermont’s historic homes.
  • Read reviews from other Vermont homeowners, including how claims are handled during peak winter demand.
  • Favor providers with local relationships and established contractor networks across a rural, spread-out state.
  • Prioritize a fast, simple claims process for when a boiler quits in February.
  • Compare a few plans to match your home’s profile and budget.

Is there a difference between homeowners insurance and a home warranty in Vermont?

Yes, there’s an easy way to explain the difference between homeowners insurance and a home warranty. Homeowners insurance covers catastrophic, unforeseen events such as accidents and fires. Home warranty protection, on the other hand, covers the appliances and systems in your home that fail due to normal wear and tear. I am very happy with Cinch. Submitting a claim with Cinch was straightforward; they sent someone out quickly. The service was much faster compared to other home warranties I've previously used. Their quick and efficient service stands out. My granddaughter submitted the claim online, and they called me soon after to set up an appointment. The tech arrived the next day, which was very convenient.
I haven't had many claims, but the one experience I had was handled swiftly and met my expectations. I rate my experience with Cinch as fabulous. Their customer service is excellent, as are the services they provide.

Cinch takes care of the customer when there's a problem. The person they decide to use follows up and texts you every step. They have good customer service and always present themselves well. Whenever you have a question, they're always there to answer it. Recently, my water heater was leaking. It couldn't be fixed so it had to be replaced. If I know somebody's looking for a home warranty, I always tell them about Cinch Home Services. They're wonderful. You don't have to go out there and look for anyone to fix anything for you ‘cause they got your back.

My experience when submitting a claim was very seamless and effortless. The tech who came knew what the issue was with the heater immediately and he ordered the fan motor. They had it the next morning and he came and put it in the next morning. It was during the winter when I didn't have heat because of it and they were really fast and on the ball.
