Coverage varies by plan and item condition.

What's covered in a sump pump warranty?

Sump pumps can fail due to motor burnout, switch problems, discharge line issues or electrical faults. Here’s how manufacturer warranties, extended warranties and home warranties typically compare.

Manufacturer warranty Extended warranty Home warranty
WHAT TYPICALLY GOES WRONG WITH THIS APPLIANCE
Parts Limited (defects only)
Labor Rarely included Sometimes
Diagnosis Sometimes
Switch/Float Assembly Limited
Motor Limited
Electrical Components Limited
Removal/Access Rarely Yes (per plan)
Wear and Tear Yes (covered failures)

Coverage varies by plan, model and condition. See sample contracts for full details.

A home warranty can be a more cost-efficient option if you want to protect a larger number of appliances and cover a wider range of potential issues. Instead of buying multiple individual protection plans, a home warranty consolidates coverage under a single service contract, often at a lower overall cost.

Home warranty vs. sump pump warranty

Manufacturer warranties usually cover defects for a limited time after purchase. Extended warranties may lengthen that protection but often still exclude labor, wear and tear or related components.

A home warranty offers broader protection. Instead of covering just your sump pump, it can include additional systems like plumbing, electrical, and other major appliances under one plan. When a covered item breaks down from normal wear and tear, you submit a claim and pay a service fee.

Why getting a home warranty for your sump pump is smart

Sump pumps are critical for protecting your basement from water damage. When they fail, especially during heavy rain — the cost of repairs and potential flooding can add up quickly. A home warranty helps reduce surprise expenses by covering eligible repairs due to normal wear and tear.

Instead of purchasing a standalone sump pump warranty, you can protect multiple systems at once. Many plans include plumbing, electrical systems, water heaters and more. With one service request and a set service fee, you gain access to qualified technicians and coverage for parts and labor. It’s a practical way to manage home repair costs while protecting the systems that help keep your home running. Don’t miss the chance to save money and avoid stress.

I am very happy with Cinch. Submitting a claim with Cinch was straightforward; they sent someone out quickly. The service was much faster compared to other home warranties I've previously used. Their quick and efficient service stands out. My granddaughter submitted the claim online, and they called me soon after to set up an appointment. The tech arrived the next day, which was very convenient.
I haven't had many claims, but the one experience I had was handled swiftly and met my expectations. I rate my experience with Cinch as fabulous. Their customer service is excellent, as are the services they provide.

Cinch takes care of the customer when there's a problem. The person they decide to use follows up and texts you every step. They have good customer service and always present themselves well. Whenever you have a question, they're always there to answer it. Recently, my water heater was leaking. It couldn't be fixed so it had to be replaced. If I know somebody's looking for a home warranty, I always tell them about Cinch Home Services. They're wonderful. You don't have to go out there and look for anyone to fix anything for you ‘cause they got your back.

My experience when submitting a claim was very seamless and effortless. The tech who came knew what the issue was with the heater immediately and he ordered the fan motor. They had it the next morning and he came and put it in the next morning. It was during the winter when I didn't have heat because of it and they were really fast and on the ball.

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions?

Let us know how we can help.

Does a home warranty cover older appliances?

Many home warranty plans cover items regardless of age, make or model, provided they are in working condition at the start of coverage and properly maintained. However, it is important to ask questions and read the fine print before agreeing to a home warranty plan. Choosing a reputable company like Cinch Home Services will help.

What's not covered?

Coverage typically excludes pre-existing conditions, improper installation, code violations, or damage caused by flooding or lack of maintenance. It’s always wise to take some time to review sample contracts for detailed exclusions. If you’re not sure about something, ask questions as opposed to assuming. This will save you frustration and potentially money too.

How much is the service fee?

With a home warranty, you pay a set service fee each time you request service for a covered item. The exact fee depends on the plan you choose and is clearly outlined during enrollment. This fee covers the technician’s visit to diagnose the issue and perform the covered repair. After that, the warranty helps cover eligible parts and labor, helping you avoid larger, unexpected repair bills.

How fast are repairs completed?

Once you submit a claim — online or by phone, 24/7 — a service professional is dispatched to diagnose the problem. Response times can vary depending on technician availability, your location and whether replacement parts are needed. In many cases, a contractor will contact you within a short period to schedule an appointment. Emergency situations may receive priority scheduling to help prevent further damage to your home.

Can I add coverage later?

In many cases, optional add-on coverage may be available either during enrollment or at renewal, depending on your plan and provider guidelines. If you decide you want additional protection for specific systems or appliances after signing up, you can review your available options and adjust your coverage accordingly. It’s best to confirm details during signup so you understand eligibility requirements and any waiting periods that may apply.

Is a home warranty the same as a sump pump warranty?

No, it’s not the same. A sump pump warranty typically applies only to that specific unit and often covers manufacturer defects. A home warranty is a service contract that can cover your sump pump and other major systems and appliances due to normal wear and tear. The home warranty gives you more protection.
